Local Champions For LGBT Plus people and their families across Dumfries and Galloway.

About LGBT Plus

"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” Universal Declaration of Human rights.

Although most of us believe in this principle, in reality, LGBT people are not always treated equally because of prejudice and discrimination. As an organisation, we are committed to supporting the legal rights of the LGBT Plus community.

Dumfries & Galloway LGBT Plus is a Scottish Incorporated Organisation set up in January 2015 for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and others similarly affected by minority issues of sexual orientation and/or gender identity e.g intersex, asexual or pansexual people as well as their families allies and supporters.

Within Dumfries & Galloway and surrounding regions and other rural areas, we promote equality and diversity and advance human rights by helping our members to live happier, safer, more active and healthier lives and engage more confidently within their communities. We work with organisations and communities so they can better support, include and value LGBT Plus adults, older people and families.

Last YearWe ran over 140 events attended by over 1600 people

Dumfries & Galloway LGBT Plus recognises that being part of a minority community spread across a rural region provides limited social opportunities. We offer a wide range of social Events to suit everyone across the region including lunches, dinners, film nights, walks, fun rainbow day outings, MSpace, WSpace, PRIDE events as well as bespoke events with our partner Lavender Menace.

Last YearWe delivered over 1000 hours of support

Dumfries & Galloway LGBT Plus recognises that issues relating to LGBT Plus identities affect more than the individuals themselves and offer a range of services to families, friends and allies. We offer many forms of support across the region including one to one support and advocacy, alternative therapies, group therapy, peer support, CBT, befriending, specific transgender support, long-term condition support, regional drop-ins as well as a range of other services.

LGBT Hand giving Thumbs up

Last YearWe trained staff from 25 different agencies

Dumfries & Galloway LGBT Plus recognises that there are often barriers to LGBT Plus people accessing local services. We offer specific support and training to organisations and individuals who provide services to the LGBT Plus community so that they can gain greater insight into the needs of the LGBT community. We support activism, representation, interagency work, outreach and awareness raising to increase in order to raise the profile of and awareness of specific issues which affect the LGBT Plus community.
