Reflections from the Chair
November has been a busy month. It started for me with a conversation over coffee with a couple of members of LGBT Plus, which confirmed a nascent idea for a new group - Mspace. A week later there followed our monthly LGBT Plus meal at The Granary, which saw the arrival of several new folk. Then a meeting with our Treasurer, Ruth, and our Service Manager, Johnathon. Our monthly Board meeting was next when we welcomed one new Trustee, Lesley Ross, and a potential new Trustee. It is quite unbelievable just how much work and planning is necessary to prepare for a two-hour meeting! Next came our evening, together with Lavender Menace, of Transgender Remembrance at The Stove - a series of short films and a reading of the names of some of those horribly murdered for being trans during the course of this last year. I think though that the highlight for me was the launch on the 22nd of Mspace: a space for men, transmen, and masculine genderqueer to share. 14 people met in the meeting-room on the ground floor of Newall House. We shared something of our stories and experiences and listened to the stories and experiences of others. Starting in January, this will become a monthly event and all men, transmen, and masculine genderqueer are welcome. Feel free to email me - david@lgbtplus.co.uk - if you want to know more. By the time you read this, I will have attended a meeting at the Scottish Parliament of the Cross Party Working Group on LGBTi+ issues. All of this is, of course, interspersed with a daily exchange of emails and conversations with our staff and my fellow trustees. This is just my month. Others have been involved in different aspects of the Board, the day to day running of D&G LGBT Plus, and numerous volunteering roles. The rest of this Newsletter is testimony to the work of our Staff and our volunteers, for which the Board is very grateful. As this will be my last opportunity before Christmas, I'd like to take the opportunity to wish all our members, staff, and readers a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
